Weather might not accompany – well, it definitely doesn´t – but, summer is around the corner! Decided to celebrate it and to give everyone a good excuse to take the streets, the organisers at the ‘Slow Food UK Week 2012‘ have put together a quite eclectic proposal for those hidden foodies of yours…
“Slow Food UK Week celebrates the many wonders of good British food. This year we will focus on our newest initiative, the Chef Alliance in partnership with Highland Park, in which leading British chefs share their enthusiasm for local, sustainable ingredients. Our Chefs will champion Forgotten Foods with special Slow Food UK menus, share their insights in vibrant talks, and open their doors for the first ever Slow Food Crawl.”
Overcome? Nothing to worry about but when time comes to decide whether to taste whiskey or go for a Stilton& walnuts ice cream.
Although the celebrations will take place all around the country 18th-24th June, El Bombin offers you a very personal selection of what will be going on in London (despite recognizing that many of the Edinburgh’s events caught my eye).
Tuesday June 19, 6:00pm
Rivington Shoreditch, 28-30 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3DZ
Food artist Caroline Hobkinson will be bringing “2062”, a spectacle of the feast in performance and social commentary, to the Rivington on Tuesday June 19. She helps all to make sense of our world through the way we eat, and will be offering an experience that will make us think about the ritual of eating food, its traditions, and how we prepare it.
Wednesday June 20, from 6:00pm
The first-ever canapé crawl will begin at Hawksmoor and takes in some of the City’s best restaurants and food vans including Alessandro Grano’s Androuet cheese shop (which will be supported by La Gelatiera and their unique cheese and forgotten foods gelato creations), Cyrus Todiwala’s Café Spice Namaste and Jun Tanaka’s Street Kitchen. At each stop you’ll be able to enjoy a drink and some wonderful canapés created using Britain’s artisan foods, and ‘crawlers’ will meet the Chef Patron at each establishment.
Tickets priced at £35 for all locations. Tickets available from Eventbrite.
